And one other thing...

... The crack is back! After replacing my wing mirror glass for my MOT, it fell out again and cracked :(.. I've now got to sort out a new mirror... Gotta ring the scrappy soon!

Q

ho ho, im back!

Well.... im back @ blogspot. As some of you may have noticed, the site experienced a lot of downtime. Not sure why that is, but it was hosted on a personal server. Big thanks to MikeSel^ for the server space, but i decided to come back here.

Since leaving blogspot, i re-designed my site using different back-end software which made my life a bit easier. I also learnt a fair bit about CSS which kinda put me off blogspot as all their blogs are controlled by CSS, and i wanted to make my site look like how i wanted it to look.

Im still in 2 minds whether to stay at blogspot, or move on and get another server for myself and host this site properly.. But obviously, i will try to keep the down time minimal!

Aaaanyway, My Pug... is due a service lol! It seems to be running slightly rough at the moment which is never a good thing but it seems alright for the moment, but i will be changing the oil and stuff pretty soon me-thinks!

Also, I've purchased a gear gaiter & surround so i can finally get round to adding my Momo gearknob which "H" got me for my birthday IN 2004 lol!... I shall hopefully be fitting that tomorrow, and im looking forward to doing that, and ill be taking pictures as i go!

Other purchases include some smoked side indicators, which, once i work out the wiring, i shall be fitting those too!...

Right, best get back to work! More updates soon!

Goodies for me

W000!... sorry, well, my goodies have turned up! Although, trusty ol eBay has come up trumps again lol!... the smoked indicator lens dont look that smoked (but better than what's there now!) and the Gear gaiter will probably require a brain surgeon to fit! Oh dear :(

Smoked Indicator lens will probably look good though, well im hoping anywho! It looks like i have to do a bit of re-wiring as the connections on the pug dont match the wiring on the indicators, but it's only 2 wires... It can't be that hard... Can it? (Remember your speaking to the person who set fire to the microwave trying to cook some supernoodles!)

The gear gaiter is going to be the difficult bit. It's just a sheet of leather sewn together. I can fit it without a hitch,it's just trying to work out how to attach it to the centre console. The gaiter comes with a tapered end, with a hole punched out every inch or so around the wide end. Does this mean i need to purchase a gear surround so i can screw that down, and screw it through the gaiter to hold it down!?... i was ideally looking for a smooth finish, so not overly enthusiastic about leaving screw's on show.

I could always take Infamous Aidy's (from the PGAC) advice, and pop down the local scrappy, and pick up a gaiter from an escort or something. oooh, whilst i'm down there, i could always pick up some 106 headrest's and attach them in the back to add a bit more luxury for my passangers... *dials local scrappies*. Just phoned the local scrappy, they'll have a 106 coming in next week-ish, and he said that headrest's are not something he tends to keep hold of, so it looks like i may get it cheap too!... So let's hope so! *crosses fingers*

Also, last night, i was waiting for my girlfriend @ the bus stop. Whilst waiting, i thought i'd flick through the Haynes manual to see how i'd go about changing the indicators. I started reading about the weekly checks you should carry out on the 106. I then decided that i am going to keep the car in better working condition. The timing belt needs to be done soon. I've had the car for around 30,000, and the Haynes manual reckons they should be done every 36,000 miles. It hasn't been done since i owned the car, and it makes me wonder whether the previous owner had it done, and if it hasn't been done, is my 106 a ticking time bomb!... EEEK! But i will work out a rotor of some sort, and make it nice and easy to read. Looking through the Haynes manual, there was an awful lot of stuff that needs to be done at different times! Oil every 6000 miles, spark plugs every 12000, timing belt every 36000, coolent every 12000. It could all get very confusing! But i will post it up here as a *guide* once it's all sorted so other 106'ers can use it =)

Other than that, im still on the look out for some alloys. Originally after a set of 306 GTi-6 Cyclone alloys, they seem rather pricy. Then found out about the Saxo VTS alloys, but they too are pricy. Generally going for around £300+ on ebay! Not what i want to pay! But i have seen some other Standard Peugeot alloys off different pug models which have caught my eye. One style generally goes for about £100, and the other set seems to be alot rarer and have yet to see some on eBay! :(

Im after some 15's. Im aware that i will need to cut the rear arches. Which is a git, but ho-hum, life goes on, and if the arches need to be cut, they need to be cut. On top of that, i'll need some arches. Generally looking at the Rallye arches or XSi arches. Which will then require new front & rear bumpers so they match up with the arches lol!... this could get very expensive just for some 15" alloys!

Fingers crossed though :)

I've moved...

Just thought i'd post a quick message to say that Qwesto's pug has now moved to a new address so i've got more flexability when it comes to design and what not.. Still in the early stages, but i will be adding more & more bits to the new site...

So check it out and update your bookmarks!

The PUG:Blog

See you there ;)

It's been a while...

Exactly 1 month since my last post here... Good innit! lol! Not a great deal's been happening with the Pug. No mods yet. I had my insurance up for renewal. That's £15 cheaper a month that what i was paying before, Bonus! Car needed to be taxed, which is another £60.50 down the drain!. D'oh

Oh, and i had my MOT done. The one thing which i have been dreading since the last MOT haha!. Countless things have gone wrong with the car over the last year. New Clutch, New Discs & Pads, New "outlet to heater matrix" hose, several new tyres, new steel wheel, new valve, new backbox & pipe, 5 new bulbs, 2 new headlight units, new rocker cover gasket etc. As i said, loads of things gone wrong, but i thought, "Right, this is silly. The MOT needs to be done (UK Law), so let's get it done & out of the way!". The main thing that was concerning me is that over the last month or 2, ive had this weird creaking noise coming from my front suspension. Not having much money to replace this, i was dreading the MOT just in case the examiner muttered the words "Sorry mate, your suspension is knackered, im going to fail your car."

But anyway, last friday was the day that the MOT. Jumped in the car, and headed to one of my favourite MOT Stations, Mersh Bros in Lewisham. Having previously phoned them to confirm the price (£42.00!!!), they said they had been very busy that week! So as i pulled in, i expected a long wait, but as luck would have it, there was 1 car on the lift, and that was it, so i was next in line. Pulled up, switched the engine off and relaxed in my seat dreading the events over the next half hour!

"Come on mate, pull on the lift" the examiner shouted, which woke me up from my sunny daze. I started my engine, and gingerly rolled onto the car lift. At that point, the car was raised 10ft in the air!...

The guy didnt say a word about the suspension while he was under the car... Bonus! Fingers crossed though as he may mention it later on. 5 minutes later, the car was lowered down again, and the lights were checked. This was the next thing i expected to go wrong as my dad & i fitted these light units ourselves, so i was expecting the beam to be way out, but as a matter of fact, they were spot on! Result!

After the half hour had passed, going up in the lift again, and coming back down, the car had already been on the rolling road to test the brakes, emissions had been tested, and everything had been done.. Was this going to be the time when the examiner told me it had failed??..

"Can you mark this down as some advice" the examiner shouted to his collegue, who pulled out a pad and pen, and got ready to scribble. "Hand brake pivot worn". Hand brake pivot? What the hell is that? Why is it worn!? I've been very careful with the handbrake as that's what stops the car running away on a hill!.. "Is that a problem?" i asked the examiner.
"Jump in" he said "and ill show you the problem".
So i got in the car with a rather miffed yet confused look on my face.
"Pull back the carpet by the handbrake"
"yeah"
"you see that bolt there?
"yeah"
"well that's your handbrake pivot, now if you move your handbrake from left to right" (it's quite wobbly!)
"ok" i said as i started moving the handbrake
"Do you see that bolt moving about?"
"Yup... What can i do to fix that?"
"Well the metal has worn alot, and pretty soon, that could break and cause your handbrake to fail so i would give you some advice to get that welded up!"
D'oh, i thought!.. It's going to fail!... "how much will that cost?" i said.
"About a tenner mate, shouldn't be more than that!"
"Cool, do you do welding here?" i asked
"yeah we do mate, unfortunatly not today as the guy who does our welding is off on fridays"
hmm.. no matter.. i will get it done soon!.. But he hasn't told me the car's going to fail it's MOT yet.. We're at the end, but nothing so far?.

The examiner goes to mouth something, and i wait with baited breath... "Ok mate, if you want to go in the office, your car's passed the MOT, it's just that bit of welding which will need to be done. Follow my collegue into the office, and you can pay and get your new certificate"

WOOOOT.. the car passed =).. Cashback!... i've just got another 365 days until my next MOT now...

Oh, and after returning to the office, my boss offered to pay for the welding to be done to my car!.. Back Of The Net!

Till next time...

Sooo bright!

I fitted my bulbs a while back, and gave them a thorough road test when i drove to suffolk, but sod's law prevailed, and it was still light outside when we got to lowestoft, suffolk! Typical!. However, i did need to use the lights and they did seem very bright, but wanted to wait until i was proper dark before giving them a good blast!

That day was last friday. "H" was out with her work pal's and i told her i would pick her up when she was finished. The call came at 2am, i jumped in the car, and tested the bulbs in the car park (as the lighting wasn't on!) DAMN!.. How bright are they?!.. practically lit up the car park as if it was daylight! Driving through the back streets of Croydon, i turned the lights onto full beam just to test them, and they lit up the whole street! Not with a manky yellow colour, but a nice bright white light! Im veery happy with these bulbs and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a set of new bulbs!

Oh, the indicators are working again :)

Not much else going on with the pug at the moment. I will need to sort the tracking out on the car soon as when i hit 70+ on the motorway, the steering wheel shakes, and then stops and then shakes again etc etc...

Lastly, i did start redesigning this site and running it on my own server which i have, had it all up & running and just had to finish one or two little items before changing the whole lot over. However, last week at some point, i think my hosting ran out as the site is no longer accesible. D'oh!

Still on the hunt for some alloys too!

Oooh.. Presents for me =)

oooh, look what turned up for the little pug in the post this morning! A pair of Philips Blue Vision Ultra H4 bulbs. And also included in the package was a set of W5W sidelight bulbs! YAY!...

After consulting the people over on the PGAC forum, i decided to pay a visit to Powerbulbs.co.uk! I purchased the set for £18 at lunchtime yesterday, and they were deliverd to my office this morning! Very pleased with the service from Powerbulbs!... I should get the chance to fit these today, which im looking forward to, as tomorrow evening, im off to Suffolk, and no doubt, i'll be driving in the dark at some point! My existing bulbs, the "Elta" bulbs i blogged about a few months back really are useless in the dark, and do not light up the road at all! And they also give off a rather naff yellow tint.

According to pictures ive seen of cars with the Philips bulbs in, they give off a nice white / blue tint so im looking forward to that! As said, i should be fitting them today, and taking them for a nice leisurely test tomorrow (15o+ miles), so expect a report of sorts next week sometime!
